Reflections on Everyday Life. A series of pinhole photography in a documentary style, captured using a teapot.
One of photography's purposes is to document reality and explore interpersonal relationships. It cannot be overlooked as a medium that makes the past more credible and reflects the present. Photography transforms events into experiences and everyday moments into memories.
The goal of this project was to create a documentary series of pinhole photographs that narrate everyday life. Instead of a traditional camera, a teapot modified into a pinhole camera was used. The images were captured from the perspective of this object. As a common household item present in every home, the teapot seems to act as a silent observer of the activities around it. Thus, the photographed settings are kitchens and dining rooms in various homes—spaces of mundane yet occasionally extraordinary events.
The use of the pinhole technique and the choice of a teapot as a camera are justified by their ability to preserve the authenticity of the surroundings, ensure the spontaneity of the subjects, and highlight the documentary nature of the scenes. The long exposure times, necessitated by technical constraints, were employed to emphasize the relationships between the figures in the frame (or their absence) and the dynamics of the space.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the creation of this project. Thank you for your trust, for allowing me into your private spaces, and for the truth you let me capture. I am deeply grateful for the time you dedicated to me and for your patience. Together, we created something fascinatingly enigmatic, brimming with metaphysical charisma. For the entirety of this experience, I thank you once again, from the bottom of my heart.
With gratitude,
Marta
